Canadian Rep. Speaks Up About Forced Organ Harvesting in China

A Canadian lawmaker is calling for international action on allegations of forced organ harvesting in China. Member of Parliament, Brent Rathgeber, tells NTD a recent book he read exposes the state-sanctioned criminal acts that have gone on for years.
The book is called "Bloody Harvest: The Killing Of Falun Gong for Their Organs". Rathgeber has himself spoken out against the Chinese regime's persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual practice. He says the forced organ pillaging claims are a major concern for countries with diplomatic ties with China.

"I mean I think anytime a government is involved in abhorrent human rights activities, and I certainly consider organ harvesting to be close to if not at the top of that list, that's going to bear negatively on all international relations, whether it's bilateral with the United States, or multilateral through the United Nations."
Two independent Canadian investigators, rights lawyer David Matas and former Secretary of State, Asia Pacific, David Kilgor, authored Bloody Harvest. It's based on research they conducted since 2006, which concludes that the Chinese Communist Party has been killing imprisoned Falun Gong adherents for their organs.

"I think the international community has to shine light on that and put pressure to make it cease because it's indefensible."
Lawmakers from the US, Europe and Asia have been calling for international efforts to end the forced organ harvesting. Rathgeber says Canada can do its part.

"So I think with respect to any physicians who want to come to Canada on medical visas or visas to study the medicine and the technique of organ transplantation, I think that Foreign Affairs has to look at those individuals very carefully to assure themselves that they're not involved in illegal harvesting of organs, and if there's any doubt, a visa should be denied."
Rathgeber is the President of the Parliamentary Friends of Falun Gong. It's the first lawmakers based group in the world that focuses on the human rights abuses that Falun Gong adherents face inside China.
