Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Tuesday boycotted the national assembly session over the alarming law and order situation in Karachi.
MQM MNA, Abdul Qadir Khanzada said that if the government’s clear stance on the issue didn’t come forth till Wednesday, then they would stage a complete boycott of the current session. He lamented that the interior minister has been continuously absent from the House.
Following its boycott of Tuesday’s National Assembly session, the MQM staged a walk out from the Senate session as well over the law and order situation in Karachi.
MQM Senator Mustafa Kamal said that Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf should put all other matters on hold and visit Karachi on an immediate basis in view of the deteriorating law and order situation.
“The prime minister should use his authority to end violence in Karachi and establish the writ of the government.”
Kamal further said that Karachi had been plagued by target killing but now people were being killed indiscriminately. He added that there was no point of the MQM sitting in parliament until the situation in Karachi improved.
“Karachi is being destroyed. If Karachi is saved, Pakistan will be saved.”
According to Kamal there had been no arrests made despite the wave of killings in Karachi.
Since Saturday, over 40 people have been killed in Karachi. Police and Rangers have conducted operations in various areas of the city and claimed to have made several arrests.
