An aide to former Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been sentenced to nearly 11 years in jail for bribery. Jose Dirceu was found guilty of running a congressional vote buying scheme using public funds to pay coalition parties for their support. The former president has not been implicated in the scandal.
