The Newshour Debate: Congress versus BJP - Part 1 of 3
  • 11 years ago
There is political rivalry, and then there are personal attacks. The Congress-BJP war of words on the national stage is now completely personal and absolutely out of control. Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP leader Narendra Modi took potshots at Union Minister Shashi Tharoor's personal life, saying his wife, Sunanda Pushkar was once his "50-crore-rupee girlfriend", a day after he made a comeback in the Union Cabinet reshuffle. Meanwhile, the Congress has hit back strongly, dunking the graft ball back into BJP's court, by asking them what action they've taken against party leaders accused of corruption. Now, it looks like there is a no holds barred battle.

In a debate moderated by TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, panelists -- Dr. Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Senior Leader, Congress; G V L Narasimha Rao, Member, Electoral Reforms Committee, BJP; Kamal Faruqui, SP, leader; Vinod Mehta, Editorial Chairman, Outlook and Rahul Narvekar, Spokesperson, Shiv Sena -- discuss whether the biggest Congress-BJP fight since 2009 will be reduced to posturing, rhetoric and recrimination.
