Track and field Olympic champion, Usain Bolt was in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday (October 23) and stopped by the city's famed Christ the Redeemer statue.

The Jamaican athlete struck his famous pose for fans and reporters at the base of the statue.

Bolt then visited a newly built sports complex.

Along with Rio's Mayor Eduardo Paes, Bolt was greeted by the media and schoolchildren eager to see meet the sports idol.

It is Bolt's first time in Rio de Janeiro, the host city of the 2016 Olympic Games.

In the past, Bolt has said he would like to defend his 100 and 200 meter titles in 2016, but on Tuesday, he told journalists that in four years many things can change.

"Depends on how I manage those four years, I think if I take my time and try not to work too hard and push my body too much, then I can work over those four years," he said.

As Rio works to prepare for the Olympics, Bolt's visit was a huge boost to the growing atmosphere in the tourist hotspot.
