Syrian rebels seige government army base

A Syrian rebel sniper fires towards a government military base west of Aleppo in video taken from a social media website.

Rebels say they've surrounded the base from all directions... and have been holding firm for the past 22 days.

A proposed cease-fire ahead of an upcoming Muslim holiday, which begins October 26th, is being met with skepticism by rebel forces.

(SOUNDBITE (Arabic) FREE SYRIAN ARMY (FSA) FIELD LEADER, NITHAM BARAKAT, SAYING:

" Last time they proposed a cease-fire, we held fire but the Assad forces did not. In the present time we are the ones with the power, we are in control, we are surrounding them, we are the ones who will demand a cease-fire."

The conflict is now entering its 19th month, and has resulted in at least 35,000 deaths.

More than 200,000 Syrians have been displaced since the conlict began
