Boeing CST-100 Spacecraft Airbag Drop in Pool

The Boeing Company's mock-up CST-100 spacecraft was put through water landing development tests Oct. 1-5 at Bigelow Aerospace's headquarters outside Las Vegas. Engineers with Bigelow dropped the capsule-shaped spacecraft into an outdoor pool from a crane four times to assess whether or not the airbags will stabilize the capsule during landings as planned. The tests are part of Boeing's ongoing work supporting its funded Space Act Agreement with NASA's Commercial Crew Program during the agency's Commercial Crew Integrated Capability development phase.
