Palestinians protest settler attacks on olive groves

Palestinian activists block traffic on a main road leading into Jerusalem.

They're here demonstrating against repeated attacks by Jewish settlers on Palestinian olive groves in the area.

Israeli soldiers quickly move in to disperse the crowd of several dozen, firing tear gas and stun grenades.

There were no reports of casualties or arrests.

An estimated 10 million olive trees dot the Israeli-occupied West Bank, thriving in the arid climate and covering 45 percent of all agricultural land in the region.

But settler attacks are taking their toll - vandals not only steal harvested olives, but have also destroyed thousands of the trees.
