South African miners have called on Anglo American Platinum to reverse a decision to fire 12,000 workers who took part in wildcat strikes.

Several hundred people joined a rally at a football stadium near the city of Rustenburg on Saturday.

The shock decision to dismiss the workers saw South Africa's currency the rand fall 4 percent as international investors dumped its assets.
