The 64th annual Emmy Awards were held in Los Angeles and "Homeland" toppled "Mad Men" to win the top drama prize. The show, a post 9/11 psychological thriller, won best drama after one season on cable channel Showtime. It also took home trophies for best writing and best acting for its two leads, Claire Danes and Damian Lewis.

On the comedy side, "Modern Family" won - it was the third year in a row that the series took home the top prize. It also picked up two supporting acting awards for cast members Julie Bowen and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Speaking of "Modern Family," star Sofia Vergara had some wardrobe issues at the ceremony. The actress tweeted that just moments before the show won for best comedy, her hand-beaded Zuhair Murad gown ripped at the back, exposing her backside. Vergara apparently rushed backstage, her fiance's jacket wrapped around her waist, and her stylist patched her up.

Finally, the first film in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy has been chosen for this year's 65th Royal Film Performance. "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" will have its royal premiere in London on December 12 - expected to attend are the Queen and William and Kate.
