Lonmin miners celebrate wage deal
After so much hardship and heartache, miners in Marikana, South Africa finally have something to smile about.

Workers gathered with their families on Wednesday to celebrate a wage settlement with their employers Lonmin.

Under the agreement the miners will receive an 11-22 percent pay increase, plus a one-off back-to-work bonus.

It brings an end to a six week strike that claimed the lives of 45 people and threatened Africa's biggest economy.

Thrity-four people were shot dead in August outside the Marikana mine, when police opened fire on striking workers.

But while the Marikana miners are now celebrating, other mining companies are looking on with concern, as the threat of industrial action speads to other nearby mines.
