While the conflict in Syria grinds on, President Assad is receiving some unlikely support from thousands of kilometres away.

Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has been a vocal critic of the Free Syrian Army and has sent oil to help the government.

But as Lucia Newman reports from Caracas, many others oppose the policy.
