Syrian army helicopter crashes in Damascus
  • 12 years ago
Syrian rebels in the capital Damascus claimed on Monday to have shot down a military helicopter conducting attacks, a rare victory for the comparatively lightly armed insurgents struggling to bring down President Bashar al-Assad's government. Syrian state television said only that a gunship had crashed in the Qaboun district. While the rebel victory will not shift the tide of the conflict, it will likely provide a morale and propaganda boost. James Bays reports from Beirut.
