Farm scheme in South Africa raises concerns

In a bid to reverse the apartheid legacy of land ownership, the government of South Africa has embarked upon a scheme to buy white-owned farm lands and re-distribute them to black and mixed race people.

But with some farms failing from lack of experience by the new owners, the costly practice is starting to come under increasing scrutiny.

One mentoring scheme pairing experienced white farmers with new black and mixed race land owners in the Western Cape aims to reverse the fortunes of these farms.
