Aid distributed to Bangladesh flood victims

Victims of devastating flooding in Bangladesh wade through water to reach aid.

More than 100 people died and some 250,000 were left stranded by flash flooding and landslides last week, set off by record-breaking heavy rain.

Government authorities and aid organizations are distributing food, drinking water and medicine among survivors, who are slowly returning back to their flooded villages.

(SOUNDBITE) (Bengali) LOCAL VILLAGER, SHAH ALI, SAYING:

"Our village was flooded and I took shelter in a high place and now I have returned to my village. Now I am surviving on these relief goods."

Most of the deaths were as a result of landslides, while others were caused by wall collapses, lightning strikes and surges of floodwater.
