Covering her face, Khadija Shah, a British woman who is seven months pregnant, walks out of a Pakistani court.

She faces charges of smuggling 63 kilos of heroin worth 5 million U.S. dollars.

The 25-year-old is being held in custody with her two young children.

Her lawyer has requested bail.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) LAWYER REPRESENTING KHADIJA SHAH, MOHAMMAD ZUBAIR, SAYING:

"We submitted a bail application for the release of Khadija Shah on medical grounds because she is pregnant of seven months, and she is facing a very terrific situation inside the jail, as well as regarding the treatment, no proper treatment, no specific and regular medication inside the jail."

Local reports say Shah denies the allegations.

In Pakistan, the penalty for heroin smuggling is death.
