[ISS] Unidentified Space Debris Forces Crew into Soyuz Spacecrafts

Flight controllers in Mission Control at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston monitored the close approach of an unidentified piece of space debris June 28, 2011 to the International Space Station that resulted in the six crew members "sheltering in place" for 30 minutes in their respective Soyuz vehicles.
The debris passed within about 820 feet of the station at 8:08 a.m. EDT, after which the crew members were given the all clear signal to leave their vehicles.
Flight controllers in Houston received notification of the possible conjunction too late overnight to execute a debris avoidance maneuver.
