Lonesome George dies on Galapagos Islands

Lonesome George, the last remaining tortoise of his kind, who became a symbol of the Galapagos Islands has died of unknown causes. It is thought he was aged about 100 years.Scientists had been trying unsuccessfully to get George to mate since 1993. Giant Galapagos tortoises can live up to 200 years old. A post mortem is to be carried out.
