Peter de Vries | Dafreeze - A SAX C EXPLOSION

  • 12 jaar geleden
Saxophone by Peter de Vries. De Vries (alias Dafreeze) is self-taught; his musical models are tenor sax player Hans Dulfer and singer Herman Brood. He began as a drummer with the punk band Circle of Hate and debuted worldwide in 1989 with the 7" EP Go for It!, pressed on transparent green vinyl, from the American label Super Seven Records (parent label: Mystic Records). Ultimately de Vries decided to start singing and in 1990 became part of the famous musical foursome Mr. Slammer, a band which like Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Powerplay and Vitesse, regularly appeared with Golden Earring, becoming their longest-serving support act. In 1996 Mr. Slammer appeared on the independent record label Voodoo Entertainment with the album X-Generation which was strongly criticized in the national media.

Since 2004 de Vries appears regularly at jam sessions. He played with the saxophonists Ruud de Vries, Wouter Kiers, Boris van der Lek and Hans Dulfer. But let these musicians also play in his own formation Monkey Blue Monkey. Due to that de Vries was mainly to hear as saxophonist at the Monkey Blue Monkey album Kouwe Klets which was produced by Theo de Jong (The Shavers).

In addition to being a musician, de Vries works at the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA) as an educational media designer. After specialized training, he received his PHBO E-learning certificate in 2006. His function at the NLDA combines specialties in film, photography and graphic design. De Vries also uses this knowledge for one of his hobbies: making music videos which he places on YouTube. Since 2007 he has been part of the North Holland top 100 cover band Living on the Edge and has a number of solo jazz and cabaret projects going.
