Russia's Putin, China's Hu urge support for Annan's Syria plan

As Chinese President Hu Jintao hosts his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, China's State television is reporting that the two leaders are calling for support for a UN-backed ceasefire in Syria.

Putin also said the two nations were on the same page when it comes to the Middle East, Iran and the Korean peninsula.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN PRESIDENT, VLADIMIR PUTIN, SAYING:

"Our two countries' views on these issues are the same or similar. Overall, we have already reached a very high level of mutual coordination in order to promote the easing of international crises and issues by the most effective means"

The two also see closer military ties ahead.

(SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) CHINESE PRESIDENT, HU JINTAO, SAYING:

"We have decided to increase cooperation in the fields of military, law enforcement and security."

Putin, will attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization later this week.
