This was the grim scene in the Nigerian city of Lagos after a Dana Air flight from Abuja crashed into a building.

All 147 people on board the McDonnell Douglas MD-83 were killed.

The crowd of onlookers was so dense that emergency services weren't immediately able to get through.

One witness said the plane seemed to be coming straight towards her.

SOUNDBITE: GIFT ONIGBO, WITNESS, SAYING (English):

"When the plane passed it bent and we thought the plane was going to land, the plane, and the next thing we heard a sound, the next thing we heard a sound, we noticed that the plane has already crashed."

The plane plunged into a tin-roofed two-storey building as it was coming in to land.

The cause of the crash is not yet clear.

An investigation is underway.
