Alabama builds oil defences

Work is under way in the United States to protect the coastline and minimise losses amid fears that the oil slick following an explosion at an offshore rig might hit the shore.

At Dauphin island, off the state of Alabama, a sand wall is being built on the beach to protect homes and roads.

Al Jazeera's Rob Reynolds reports from the island, where just about everyone makes their living from the sea.
