Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan's president, is facing a new challenge to his ability to rule after parliament members rejected 17 of his cabinet nominations.

The vote on Saturday came as Karzai made a rare visit to the country's Helmand province - a Taliban stronghold in the south.

Al Jazeera's Hashem Ahelbarra reports from the capital, Kabul.
