Israel has handed over the bodies of dozens of Palestinian militants to the Palestinian authorities, saying it hopes the gesture will help restart the peace process.

Israeli police escorted lorries carrying the bodies, until now buried in Israeli cemeteries.

They include several suicide bombers.
