Specialist fire crews are attempting to stop a massive fire on a leaking oil rig in the Timor Sea off the northwest Australian coast.

The fire broke out as staff were attempting to plug the leak that has been spewing oil into the sea for more than two months.

Environmentalists have called the oil spill and resulting fire in waters between Australia and Indonesia a "catastrophe".

Al Jazeera's Azhar Sukri reports.
