Somalia has become the world's foremost "failed state," with no functioning government, more than one million refugees, and each street corner run by a different warlord -- some aligned with the West, and some not.

Earlier this week the United Nations brokered a peace deal between one small opposition faction and the Transitional Federal Government, which was set up in 2004 and controls some parts of Somalia.

But many analysts do not expect much improvement in the country's lot.
