German Muslims concerned about bomb plot reaction - 09 Sep07

Al Jazeera's Mathew Moore in Frankfurt reports that Muslim leaders in Germany are working hard to get out the message that Muslims find the recent alleged bomb plot as shocking and deplorable as anyone. They have voiced their concern over any possible reaction to the development. Three men remain in custody in Germany, and the justice minister is calling for stricter controls on the sale of dangerous chemicals. The suspected Islamic fighters were arrested last week on suspicion of planning an attack using 700kg of hydrogen peroxide, a potential explosive. Prosecutors have suggested it was intended to be used against discos, bars and airports used by the thousands of US service personnel based in Germany. Media reports suggest a group called the Islamic Jihad Union may have organised the plot from Pakistan.
