North Korea flaunts military might

An impressive display of military might from North Korea as the country stages a massive combined army, navy and airforce military drill.

State television broadcast images of leader Kim Jong-un inspecting the drills, which apparently took place on Wednesday.

Kim reportedly urged officers and solders to always think of the battle field and keep on maximum alert.

He also ordered solders to mercilessly wipe out enemies if they provoked the North.

The reclusive state has repeatedly threatened to launch a 'sacred' war against South Korea over its annual military drills with the United States.

The television broadcast follows Friday's announcement that North Korea will launch a working satellite next month - widely seen as a disguised missile launch.

That news was condemned by the U.S. and others who say it breaches a U.N. resolution banning Pyongyang from ballistic missile launches.

North Korea, which said recently it would suspend long-range missile testing as part of talks with the United States, pledged the launch would not impact neighbouring countries.
