At a press conference on Friday, Chongqing Communist Party Secretary Bo Xilai spent a lot of effort defending his family, especially his son, Bo Guagua. One of the issues Bo Xilai mentioned in the press conference were reports from Chinese media that his son was driving a red Ferrari in Beijing. And even Western media had reported on Bo Guagua's Ferrari. Last November, an article in the Wall Street Journal described how Bo Guagua pulled up to the US Embassy in a red Ferrari to take then-Ambassador Jon Huntsman's daughter on a date.Bo Guagua has something of a party-boy reputation, as seen in some of the pictures here. That's a problem for Bo Xilai, as it reinforces perceptions that Communist Party officials, and their families, are rich and corrupt.During the press conference, Bo also said that his son went to both Oxford and Harvard on full scholarships. Now, some media, including the Wall Street Journal, have done some digging into this. While it's impossible to know the specific arrangements these schools have made with individual students, neither school usually gives full scholarships to foreign students. And Harvard especially, like all Ivy League schools, only gives scholarships to students in financial need.
