Syrian civilians killed in Homs "massacre"
Footage posted on a social media website by Syrian opposition activists purpotedly shows bodies piled up in a room in Homs.

Activists say dozens of civilians were killed in a "massacre" by pro-Assad militias, which coincided with a weekend visit to Syria by U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan.

President Bashar al-Assad's government says a "massacre" did take place, but blames the rebels.

Syrian state television broadcast images of dead civilians in Homs that it claims were killed by "terrorist armed groups".

This man says the victims supported the state, so the militants killed them.

Other videos posted on the internet, which Reuters cannot independently verify, purport to show a demonstration in Idlib, where four people were killed after troops and tanks moved in over the weekend.

Here in Deraa, activists say a schoolgirl was killed in a car bomb attack outside her school after participating in an anti-Assad protest.

Government restrictions on the media make it difficult to assess conflicting reports by the government and their opposition since the uprising began one year ago.
