PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT
Having played music since the age of 6, Gerry played in various music genres including a country band, a heavy metal group, dance band, traditional and ballad outfits, and a swing jazz group. In 2002 Gerry released a six track CD called "Grist for the Mill" which met with great acclaim and is regularly featured on RTE national radio.
In 2003 he joined forces with two friends to form a traditional group called "Coisir". They embarked on a tour of Germany in 2004 with "Sessions From The Hearth" covering 17 cities in 17 nights. They also appeared on Brendan Begley's award winning program "Gantry". Together they released a CD called "On The Right Track". The four songs on the CD are penned by Gerry and have gained great favour with audiences and critics alike.
During this time, Gerry also took a full time position with Derek Warfield's Wolfetones, which lasted almost two years touring extensively in America and Europe.
In between this hectic schedule, Gerry honed his song-writing skills and in 2004 he decided to build a solo career. Solo performance is what Gerry loves most with a powerful singing voice and high energy performances. His guitar playing has a mixture of strong rhythmic right-hand and delicate finger styles that match even the most experienced players.
Gerry has played support to a host of well-known artists including Dervish, The Fureys, The Hothouse Flowers, and The Dubliners. Recently he has supported Mundy and featured on the Working Class Heroes Tour with Don Baker, Ronnie Drew, and Finbar Furey.
Gerry is, in every sense of the word a true performer. He is diverse and innovative on stage.
Even at this early stage Gerry has worked with some of the best in the business in what promises to be a resounding career.
