At the Hong Kong premiere of her latest film, Michelle Yeoh said that playing the role of Myanmar human rights advocate Aung San Suu Kyi in the "The Lady" was the role of a lifetime.

SOUNDBITE: Michelle Yeoh, saying (English) (Audio as incoming):

"The Lady has become more than just a movie. It really is a labor of love. And, most importantly, I hope, it's made me a better person, because stepping in her shoes, I've discovered a really incredible human being, who is very inspirational. And I hope that she will be an inspiration to all of you as well."

The film was shot in Thailand near its border with Myanmar, as well as secretly in Myanmar itself, and used footage shot by pro-democracy activists.

The story revolves around the sacrifices of Suu Kyi and her family as she is propelled into the position of democracy leader.

Suu Kyi was released from 11 years of house arrest halfway though filming last year that. She is now campaigning for parliament ahead of the country's April elections, calling for an end to the military-drafted constitution.

"The Lady" will open in Hong Kong on February 9 and will open in limited release in the U.S. in April.
