The Three Admirals - Three Wishes
This upload is meant to express my best New Year's wishes to all my viewers :-) The Three Admirals were a British trio of comedians/vocalists, consisting of Eddie Lee (tenor), Joe Lee (tenor) and Norman Bartlett (baritone). On this delightfully charming 1933 recording they were accompanied by Len Fillis (guitar) and Austin Croom-Johnson (piano). Len Fillis was first taught to play the banjo by Al Bowlly in Cape Town, South Africa. Four years later he toured his home county with a brother and sister as "The Fillis Trio". In 1923 he came to London with his pianist Edgar Adeler. In 1929 he gave up dance-band work and started free-lancing. He left Britain for Australia in 1938 and stayed there until his return to Britain in 1946. He spent his last years in South Africa. Fillis has nearly a hundred compositions to his credit, many written in collaboration with pianist Sidney Bright. Fillis also was a pioneer of the plectrum-guitar in Britain, and a well known player of the Hawaiian guitar.
