Here are some tips on how to design a master bedroom. Your master bedroom is your retreat, a place to get away from the world. A lot of people want it to be soothing, Zen-like. I think that a master bedroom can be fun, exciting, beautiful but also relaxing. Sometimes people are afraid to use bold colors in a master bedroom thinking it would not be restful. What I usually do in that case is say “hey” why do not we pop some interesting wall paper or a bold paint on the back wall which gives it a focal point. And also, you can use your headboard or a drape as a focal point as well. Then, you can take the other wall and put a more serene color that is complimentary. This is a very light blue and blue and red on the opposite ends of the color spectrum from each other.
Another tip for making a master bedroom very special is to pamper yourself. Think about your bedding, your linens; always get the finest quality of these even if you are on a budget because you will not be disappointed. You will always feel like you on vacation at some fancy hotel and you will never want to leave. My design challenge in this tiny room was too many doors. There all over the place plus a giant picture window. The question was: “Where do you put the bed?” Luckily, one of the doors leads to nowhere so I covered it up with this full size custom headboard and this wonderful basket weaved vinyl. So this can help you think about the things that do not function in your room that are permanent but do not need to be there. You can always cover them up and nobody’s the wiser.
Make sure your end tables are at least the same height as the top of your mattress or it can be a little bit above like this one or a little below. Also make sure you use a proper scale of lamp considering the height of the ceiling and the width of the room. This end table is about a medium size and we have a medium size lamp.
