Italians protest plans to privatize water

Hundreds gathered in Rome with a demand for Italy's new Prime Minister --- Don't touch the water supply.
They held blue balloons and called on Mario Monti not to privatize public utilities including water.
Italians voted against privatization in a referendum in June.
SOUNDBITE: Demonstrator Alessandro Punzo saying:
"The people are back here demonstrating because not only this government, but also the previous one have not respected the will expressed by 27 million citizens."
The government sees privatization as essential to finance better services, while opponents say it would lead to higher prices.
Monti's newly installed government is currently under high pressure, as Italy's borrowing costs soared to their highest levels since in years.
