A brief overview of the color wheel shows you the cool colors, which are the blues, greens and purples on this side of the color wheel, and the warm colors, the yellows, oranges and reds. If you wanted to do a complementary color scheme, it is colors that are opposite on the color wheel. So the blue and the orange are opposite, the green and red are opposite, blue and yellow are opposite. If you wanted to do an analogous color scheme, those are colors that are near each other. That would be shades of blue, shades of yellow. That would be a very safe and appealing color scheme.
