Art Showcase: Spitfire Mk IX - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. This is my full sized replica of a 1944 Spit Fire Mark 9. Now it is kind of my favorite Spit Fire, I guess because they went to the four blade propeller and the glide call and the oil cooler underneath were symmetrical. A Mark 5, one was round, one was rectangular. So, I think they got their act together by Mark 9. So, I think it is one of the nicest looking Spit Fires. It is got the 20 millimeter cannons on the wing. As well as the two 303 Browning machine guns on each wing. Actually, the end off these cannons is the legs off my mothers old wooden coffee table, so it worked out perfect. These are propane cylinders from your camp stove. Basically, you could double up on your fire power. You could have two 20 millimeter cannons on each wing, if you so desired. Wheel wells are the tops and bottoms from 45 gallon barrels so it worked out well. The wheels actually fold up. On the Hurricane, they fold in. On the Spit Fire, they fold out so they would normally fold up into there. My manifold is actually fence posts from above ground swimming pools. I skinned it with the sheet metal from above ground swimming pools. I do get a lot of mileage out of swimming pools. You cannot see it, but behind the nose is a 28' 29' Ford, Model A Ford wheel. Propeller that I carved out of 2x10 spruce. So, it would have had a Rolls Royce Merlin engine in it. All the wheels are a 1993 Venture van spare dough nut type.
