Style Guide: Plus Size Outfit Ideas - as part of the Women's Style series by GeoBeats. Just remember, no matter what your shape, nothing will make you look heavier that wearing clothes that are ill-fitting and too tight. When shopping, be sure you check out all four sides of you in the full-length mirror to make sure that nothing is stretching, gapping or sagging. Clothes can be altered to fit, but you want to dress for your body size. Do not worry about what is on the tag. We all know there is no significant standardization between sizes when you go from manufacturer to manufacturer. You also want to think in terms of proportion, balance, and line. You want to create a smooth line. That is probably the most important thing. So if your hips are wide, you want to wear pants that are a little bit wider in the leg, and boot-cut jeans rather than skinny jeans. Wear more substantial shoes rather than dainty ones. And structured jackets are great for balancing your hips. Now say that you are a bit little wider around the middle. You want to wear clothes that are loose fitting, but still have a shape. For some reason a lot of larger sizes are shapeless. If you really like it, you can have it tailored to flatter your curves. If you have a bigger bust and want to minimize it, you want to wear lower necklines in contrasting colors to your skin. So, if you have light-colored skin you want to wear darker colors, and if you have dark skin wear lighter colors. This will create a visual separation between your neck and your bust. Also, higher waistlines are not good for busty gals. Same thing goes with wide belts - it makes you look like you are all bust and no waist. Additionally, there is a lot of great shapers out there. I have seen shaper camis that virtually eliminate bra strap bulge.
