Crate Training Necessities for Puppies - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Crates, I believe are an absolutely vital part of puppy training because primarily you need to teach your puppy where to go to the bathroom and so, you can have your rags down and your puppy is really clear about what they are supposed to do because they do not know the difference between the floor and their patty area. So, a crate also works great for traveling with your puppy. You want to find a crate that is the right size, that is critical because if a crate is too big, your puppy can use part of it to pee and poop and they will not, and they will still be okay because they can separate themselves from it. So, ideally you want to get a crate, this is a great travel crate too, because it is portable. It is not a soft crate but this kind of crate is probably the most common, and you pick it so that they can stand up and turn around in it. This crate is nice, but there are some times where people might choose to get an open metal crate, it is mesh. It is like this and it is large, but you can cut it off and they get smaller and as the puppy grows it can get bigger. It is not as affordable but you only have to buy one crate. This one is wonderful for bringing your puppy places, traveling in the car. It depends on the size, some puppies can fit in to its purse but inside this crate there is a little toy for this puppy and his little bed. And so, he comes to puppy class in this crate and he can see the world and get socialized, and the same time he has got this nice little den. So, whatever you do, whatever kind of crate you choose. Make sure that you learn about how to slowly get your puppy used to a crate, you do not want to just push them in the crate and close the door. And do some research and recognize that a crate is not a prison, it is a great way to actually give your puppy freedom once they have learned the appropriate place to go to bathroom.
