Galliano fined; Witherspoon recovering

A French court handed out an 8,421 dollar (USD) fine to John Galliano on Thursday after finding him guilty of anti-Semitic behavior. The court ruling marks the end in a fall from grace for the former head designer of fashion house Dior, who could have been sentenced to six-months in prison.
The British designer has also paid for his bad behavior with the loss of his job at the fashion house and extensive damage to his reputation.
Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon is home and recovering from being hit by a car while jogging in the beach community of Santa Monica on Wednesday (September 07).
A rep for the the actress said in a released statement that Witherspoon was not seriously injured and is resting comfortably.
Witherspoon, 35, became a box office sensation and A-list Hollywood star in the "Legally Blonde" comedy movies, winning an Academy Award for best actress in the Johnny Cash biopic, "Walk the Line."
Jury selection is underway in the manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson's former physician, Dr. Conrad Murray.
Only a handful of television cameras and few fans of the "Thriller" singer were on hand in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday (September 08) to watch prosecutors and defense lawyers for Dr. Conrad Murray begin the process of finding 12 people to decide if Murray is responsible for the Jackson's death by drug overdose.
Murray faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
Opening arguments are expected to begin in the last week of September.
Mary Tyler Moore, best known for the 1960s and 70s TV series "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Screen Actors Guild's annual awards ceremony in January.
