Allstate Insurance Company has released its annual Social Responsibility Report. The report, titled “When Good Hands People Give Back,” reviews Allstate’s community involvement and sustainability strategy. Among the highlights for 2010: contributions of $30 million to community projects, including one-third of Allstate Foundation grants and corporate contributions directed to programs in multicultural communities, and a reduction of paper use in its home office by 41 percent, compared with a 2008 baseline.

The American Chemical Society has begun one of the largest-ever sessions devoted to sustainability and green chemistry. At the ACS National Meeting and Exhibition, currently under way in Denver, 29 meetings will offer more than 150 scientific reports on sustainability. The topics range from green chemistry for sustainable production of fuels and innovative solutions to water pollution to controlling greenhouse gas emissions.
