And Chinese car-race enthusiasts have a special spectacle going on at the moment: a week long rally at extremely high elevations. Here's more.

Racers set out from Beijing on Saturday morning for Xining, in western China's mountainous Qinghai Province.

The week-long Qinghai Haixi Car and Motor Rally starts in Xining today. It will cover 5,000 kilometers, going through the Tianjun grassland, the Kunlun Mountains and Hoh Xil before returning to Dulan where it finishes. But drivers have to keep an eye out for more than just the bends in the road.

[Fu Qiang, Deputy Tourism Director, Haixi]: [Mandarin, Male]
"The altitude of Haixi averages more than 3,000 meters. The lack of oxygen will make drivers feel ill and will also affect the normal function of vehicles."

To tackle these physical challenges for competitors, the rally organizer has arranged support vehicles and personnel and organized racers to maximize relief in case of emergency.

One of the racers said they have prepared oxygen bags, vitamin C and medicine for external use, as well as a complete set of tools and sleeping bags, should the need arise. For those still feeling light-headed, it might be the adrenaline rather than the elevation.
