Amateur video shows Syrian protesters coming under attack by what appears to be plainclothes security forces. And while the Syrian army continues its tank-led assault in the region, the situation along the border with Turkey remains calm after Syrian troops shot dead 11 villagers.

Video posted to social media websites and dated June 29th and 30th purportedly show Syrian protesters in the city of Aleppo being chased on the street by men in civilian clothes wielding stick.

In Homs protesters are shown running on the street to flee tear gas.

In other cities protests continue, with demonstrators chanting anti-government slogans and taking an oath to not surrender.

Meanwhile, the situation along Syria's border with Turkey remains calm after Syrian troops shot dead 11 villagers on Wednesday.

According to residents, the Syrian army pressed on with a tank-led assault that has driven thousands of refugees across the north-west border with Turkey.

The assault targeted Jabal al-Zawya, a region 22 miles south of Turkey that has seen spreading protests against President Bashar al-Assad's rule.

It was launched overnight, a day after authorities said they would invite opponents to talks on July 10 to set up a dialogue offered by Assad.

Opposition leaders have dismissed the offer, saying it is not credible while mass killings and arrests continue.

The Local Co-ordination Committee, a major activists' group, said in a statement on Wednesday that a thousand people have been arrested arbitrarily across Syria over the last week alone.
