Construction on the palace, which was on the site of an older structure, was started in 1789 and was completed by 1803. The most distinctive piece of the palace building is the beautiful clocktower that branches from its side. This tower is built using part of the castle that had previously stood here for several centuries. Though the Weimar Grand Ducal Palace is not as large as some palaces, it is a wonderfully elegant dwelling place.
