The mother of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is calling on the Australian government to help her son. In an interview with Australian media, she said she would be speaking to the media and members of the public at a press conference in Brisbane. Our Australian bureau files this report.

Christine Assange, the mother of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, is putting more pressure on the Australian government to take up her son's case.

She says she will highlight the injustices of his case in front of Foreign Affairs Minister Kevin Rudd's office in Brisbane on Friday.

Christine Assange says her son has enormous support in Queensland, his home state.

A hearing is underway in London to determine whether Mr Assange should be extradited to Sweden to face the sexual misconduct allegations.

Mr Assange denies the allegations against him, and says they are politically motivated.

His lawyers say extradition to Sweden could be a stepping stone to extradition to the US, where he could face execution for leaking state secrets.
