Chinese state-run broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) is accused of using footage from the movie "Top Gun" in a new report on Chinese air force drills. After it was discovered, it's led to an embarrassing situation for the authorities. Let's take a look.

Chinese news footage taken from a movie?

The state-run broadcaster, China Central Television (CCTV) ran a news story about Chinese air force training exercises in the evening of January 23rd. Apparently some footage of that story is from the movie "Top Gun."

In the footage in question, some missiles are fired and a J-10 fighter is blown to pieces.

When viewers recognized the footage from the 1986 Hollywood movie "Top Gun," they cried foul play. Overseas media then began to scrutinize it.

The Wall Street Journal has posted side-by-side images of the "Top Gun" scene and the CCTV news clip on its website, showing that they are identical.

CCTV has not responded publicly to the allegation, but it removed the clip from its website.
