The Mummy star Brendan Fraser is treading the boards in New York.

He is starring alongside Denis O'Hare in the Broadway production of Elling, a play that began in the tiny Bush theatre in London before hitting the West End and eventually crossing the pond.

Fraser plays a character described as "an orangutan obsessed with food and sex".

"I don't know why they picked me for the gig", he joked at the launch event.

Elling is showing now at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway.
