Indian women have done well in the Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi—particularly in events like shooting, wrestling, tennis and badminton, providing tough competition for their male counterparts.

Indian women runners won the gold medal in the 4X400 meter relay on Tuesday, making it an unforgettable golden day.

One of the four relay athletes shared her experience.

[Sini Jose, Relay Athlete]: (female, Hindi)
"We were little tensed as the Nigerian team was participating with us. Tension was there but home ground support was also there which made us perform well."

Another athlete said the performance of all the women athletes is an example to other Indian women, of how to make their mark in the world.

[Ashwini Chidananda, Relay Athlete]: (female, Hindi)
"Yes, it is true that we are living in women's era, even the president of our country is a woman. We would like to encourage more girls to come out of their houses and think about their bright future and about the progress of the country. We want everyone (women) to think about her."

India bagged a total of 101 medals at the Games with 38 gold, 27 silver and 36 bronze medals, which would have been impossible without the contribution of women athletes.
