Continuous landslides in India's northern Dehradun City have blocked the highway to New Delhi, leaving tourists stranded.

As of Sunday, hundreds of tourists have headed back to their homes after torrential rains resulted in a number of landslides in the region.

[Shantanu, Tourist]:
"We heard that Uttarakhand has been receiving a lot of rain but did not imagine such a situation. We are now planning to go back from Kanpur. We are seeing that landslides are happening everywhere. People are stranded everywhere, and are facing a lot of problems."

Bulldozers were seen working at the site to clear the slush and rubble in order to resume transport services.

The situation remains grim, as parts of northern India have been receiving continuous rainfall over the last few days.

Heavy rains and landslides in the region have severely damaged the roads, blocking several routes to nearby cities and towns.

This year the monsoon has caused heavy floods in the northern and central part of India, causing heavy devastation to life and property.
