Pakistan's president visits flood-ravaged areas in the country's southwest today. His message... help is on the way for people there in their hour of need.

On Tuesday, Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari visited the flood affected areas of southwest Baluchistan Province.

He reassured the Baluch people they were not alone in their hour of need.

Baluchistan was first to be hit by the worst floods in the country’s history. But it has been largely ignored after more menacing waters raged in other parts of Pakistan.

The calamity has displaced more than 400,000 people in Baluchistan. Another 600,000 have been left without homes to the neighboring Sindh Province.

Separatist nationalist militants have waged a low-scale insurgency for decades in Baluchistan, Pakistan's biggest but poorest province.

Hundreds of people have been killed in assassinations and bomb attacks in recent years, before a relative lull in recent months.

The militants are campaigning for greater autonomy and control of abundant natural gas and mineral resources, which they say have been unfairly exploited for the benefit of other parts of the country.
